From 2022-2024 I worked for Vogel NYC training to make bespoke traditional men’s dress shoes and equestrian riding boots as an Uppermaker. The techniques for sewing leather require careful selection of the leather, informed selection of the pattern placement on the leather, clean cutting, thinning the leather sewn and folded and precise sewing. If there is a mistake in any of these crucial steps, the shoe may make it to the final assembly but still be rejected by the final review process.
